Plunger Boy

Text size: A- A A+

“Mommy! MOMMY!!”

“What is it, Emma?”

“The toilet sounds weird, and the water is not going down!”

“Is the water coming out of the bowl?”

“No, but I thought it might.”

“OK, I’ll be up in a minute.”

“See Mommy?”

“I see. You didn’t throw any stuffed animals down there, honey, did you?”

“No!”

“OK, I don’t want you being late for school, so go grab your lunch box and head on out to the bus stop.”

“Are you going to fix the toilet, Mommy?”

“No, but I know just the guy who can take care of this for us. His name is Plunger Boy.”

“That does not sound like a real name to me. Is he some kind of superhero?”

“Only sometimes. Now go to school, and I will see you this afternoon.”

“Bye, Mommy!”

“Bye, Lovebug!”

… later

“I’m home!”

“Hi, honey. How was your day at school?”

“OK, I guess. Is the toilet still broken?”

“Nope, thank goodness. Plunger Boy came to fix it at lunchtime. I was preparing for a Zoom call.”

“Who is this Plunger Boy you keep talking about?”

“You’ll see. I invited him for dinner tonight.”

“Don’t lie to me, Mother!”

“I’m not. You’ll get to see him later.”

“Is he nice?”

“I think you’re going to like him OK.”

… later

“Emma, come downstairs. Plunger boy is coming.”

“No. I don’t want to.”

“Why not? Don’t be shy.”

“No!”

“Here he is, honey! I can see you peeking around that corner.”

“That’s not Plunger Boy! That’s Daddy!!”

You can call him what you want, honey, but he’s my Plunger Boy.”
