My Daddy Goes BOOM
By Martin Bubear
My Daddy, you see, is an astronaut.
He tells me stories of how he fought
Aliens and monsters from outer space.
All to protect the human race.
My Daddy goes bonkers as he flies round the room.
Pretending to launch off to the moon.
He goes faster and faster starting to zoom.
The sound pressure building until
My Daddy Goes BOOM!
My Daddy is funny he just makes me laugh.
His astronaut stories are brilliant but daft.
He fights with the monsters shoots them with lasers.
Putting on a show for all the star gazers.
And always at the end of the tale he goes quiet.
But I know what’s coming is as loud as a riot.
My daddy goes bonkers as he flies round the room.
The sound pressure building until
My Daddy Goes Boom!
My Daddy’s stories are always the best
In spacesuits and helmets sometimes we are dressed
As we act out the adventures and the missions unfold
We soar through space all sights to behold
As crewmen together we explore the universe
With images of worlds and life so diverse
Then from the quiet there starts a vroom
The sound pressure building until
My Daddy goes Boom!
It was bedtime again and I waited by the chair.
Hoping for a story of a monster with green hair.
Or maybe a space battle of fighting foes
With aliens and beasties with only three toes.
My mum said “Come quick to the window and look.”
Was this another tale from my Dad’s story book?
I looked to the dark sky, what could it be?
“Watch and wait,” my Mum said and Daddy you’ll see.
I saw stars shining bright then in the distance a flare.
Followed by a huge noise shaking the air.
The rocket was glowing, its red tail on fire.
As it lit up the sky going higher and higher.
“Your Daddy’s in there,” my Mum said with pride
Dabbing her eyes as tears she dried.
I looked at the spacecraft, could it really be?
The same Daddy in there who told stories to me.
I watched as the rocket lit up the gloom.
Crossing the face of the big silvery moon.
He goes faster and faster starting to zoom.
The sound pressure building until
My Daddy Goes BOOM!
